If an adoption was private, is there any way a person can have the records opened?
This is a question for a person that I know who wants to find her birth parents.
I had a cousin that was adopted and she found my aunt after 30 something years. She contacted the Adoption agency and then they contacted my aunt and had to get the OK from her to give my cousin the file but I am not sure how it works the other way if my aunt would have wanted the information if they would have given it to her or not. Hopefully this helped.
I am struggling with the same thing. I was born in Michigan and put up for adoption, and OF COURSE the records there are still closed. I wish you luck on your search.

I believe the person who was adopted has to be over the age of 18 before that can ever happen.
