I believe if you know of someone that you would like to raise your children and they are agreeable then yes. But I don't know if they would let you be a part of the whole process if they were the ones looking for a family. But whomever you would choose whould have to pass the same requirements as anyone else wishing to adopt. I am a legal guardian of 2 where the Mom doesn't feel she can raise them and she asked me to.
References :
no once the state severs your rights the parents don't half to have you in the childs life. Also you have no choice in the matter. Only if they are in your custody and you go through a private agency but most people who go through agencies want babies so you probbally won't find someone to adopt them
References :
OMG! Ignore the cruel comments. Some PPL are idiots and have no idea what T.H. they're talking about. Walk a mile in (our) shoes before casting aspersions on others.

Whew...had to get that off my chest.

As the (single) mom of a special needs son, I understand your fears about being able to handle the challenges that come with a special needs child. There ARE support services available to help you care for your son. In my state, my son is eligible for various therapies and respite care (allows parents time out). Finding those support services should be a part of your reunification plan. Please consider finding all available resources before giving up on YOURSELF and your child.

That said, because your parental rights have not been terminated, of course you can choose open adoption. You can try to find adoptive parents on your own, or with the help of our social services case worker. BE SURE you let the case worker know your desire to remain in contact!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE contact me by e-mail. I support whatever decision you choose, ultimately. And I can provide you with more information, ideas, share my struggles and triumphs. There is another path...

Best wishes, my friend! My heart is with you and so are my prayers.
References :
'special' mom, CASA volunteer (court appointed special advocate working with a child in foster care) & reunited adoptee

I'm a mom with a son with special needs too. IF you give youself the chance you'll be amazed at how strong you are. when they told me he was going home I felt so insecure. He was on 10 meds. and I needed to learn 3 machines and he needed constant suctioning. By the grace of God I made it through so far. It truely took more than me. Are you part of a church? There are usually loving caring people at church that will be more than happy to give you some of their time

But if you do decide to place him for adoption, I'd think that DCFS would like for you to select someone from thier roster, that is if he is a ward of the court. I'll be praying for you mama.
ETA---- forget what some peole say about your mothering. It's real easy to judge when they're not in your situation.
References :
Worry less about modern day appliances like wireless laptops and big screened TVs then you might be able to give your special needs child the one on one he needs and deserves.
References :
This is something that varies from state to state. I would recommend that you contact your social worker. He / She should be able to give you the proper answer.

If your state has a childrens advocate's office. They can also help you.
