Foster Adoption

What’s the difference between foster care and adoption centers?

I’m writing a book and the girl’s father is still alive but ran away when she was six months old and her mom had committed suicide. (teen pregnancy if you must know). Would she be put in foster care or an adoption center? What’s the difference? Nice mature answers only, thank you!
the child is currently 16, mother dead, father missing, lives in Georgia, no family wants the child because she’s weird and quirky. It’s unusual, yes, but that’s what makes the book interesting. Just saying. Thanks for the answers!! :) )

Adoption center is where she’d stay until she gets adopted and placed in a nice home…
Foster care is where she’ll be placed until she’s 18.
Most kids by then get kicked out or if lucky kept.
I was kicked out of my placement to which i was in since i was 1 years old. I was 16 when they kicked me out; all because i liked piercings and had schooling issues.

She’ll most likely be placed in foster care. I just hope it’s a nice placement otherwise it can mess you up.
Maybe she can become emancipated. i was when i was 16. More or less she can run her own life.

  1. Foster parents don’t keep the child, they care for them until the find a good home. Adopted is a permeant home. So foster kids are fostered until they’re adopted if they can find a home. She’d probably go into foster care or live alone (which in not a good choice but it’s common.

  2. most likely Foster care because her father is still out there somewhere, and he would have to legally give up custody for her to be put up for adoption, and since he cant because he’s not around than she would be in foster care until he is either found or the government gains custody and the someone can adopt her.

  3. She would immediately go into an orphanage. When you call it an adoption center, you must realize that she doesn’t necessarily have to go up for adoption right away. The orphanage IS, in fact, the adoption center.

Foster care comes after a while. You have to go through the process of selecting parents, interviewing, and checking with the child about their feeling towards the various adoptive parents before any kind of adoption (foster care) will take place.

  4. Chances are she would have initially been put into the foster care system. This occurs when neither parent can take care of the child. Foster children are usually able to be adopted once the parents rights are terminated regarding the children. Children in the foster system are taken away, children in adoption centers are given away.

  5. You don’t clarify where the child was living after she was born….but before her mother committed suicide.

If her mother was alive and was caring for her for the first weeks or months of her life, then most likely the child would go to her biological relatives to live, either her mother’s family or her father’s family.

Children don’t just go into foster care or adoption when their parents die. Usually kin will get custody first, unless there are no relatives who can step up, but that is unusual.

  6. She would go to foster care—-it happened around here a couple of yrs ago. If the father fails to return in a reasonable amount of time—a yr would be sufficient then his rights are terminated. Since it is abandonment the rights may be terminated in 6-7 months. In the meantime a mandate is issued out of state and if he is located HE will be arrested. The child will be moved to an adoptive home if the foster parents do not wish to adopt after the yr is over or she will move into transitional living and independence. Foster kids are no more quirky than others their ages—especially being a teenager.
Since dad is in Georgia he will be located, arrested, and jailed. And hopefully found unfit as a parent.

No they won’t be waiting for him to relinquish his rights—he put his rights on the line when he abandoned her. The court will terminate his rights due to abandonment!!

And in the majority of cases a "fit" relative can Not be found and in the majority of cases the child goes into regular foster care.
