We are in the last stages before we get placed with son/s. Our family is excited but nervous about the unknown. Please post or video comment any advice or stories that you think might be helpful to us if you have been any part of the Adoption triad (Birthparent / Adoptee / Adoptive Family).

  2. We actually have …
We actually have our first placement right now (10 year old boy). It was a little scary at first, but we have adjusted and are doing well. We do not plan to adopt him but I hope that he will look back on his time with us and have fond memories…and that he takes what he learned with us and applies it to the rest of his life.

  3. Wow! It’s exciting …
Wow! It’s exciting to hear from another family trying to adopt this way. Do you love fostering? Is it super hard for you? I’m intimidated by straight up fostering cause I fall in love so easily and I am fearful I’d have a hard time saying bye once mom get’s better and they go back home. Id that hard? It’s possible that our 1st placement will go back to mom or dad but I’m hoping for legally free or likley to be legally free. I’m still nervous. Good luck w/ your adoption journey too :)

  7. Thank you so much! …
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you sharing your experience. Did you have to deal with any meth exposed kids? We were warned that we will likely be placed with meth exposure since that is the primary reason they foster where we are. I am most worried about what this looks like because there is so little info out there on it and it’s effects on development. Anything you know about that I would love to know. Thanks so much Torpssister :)

You can’t know how much I appreciate your post! Thank you for sharing I really appreciate the advice. We know that they will likley be traumatized emotionally so we have all talked alot about making sure we are patient and long suffering with them so that they can learn to trust again and just 2 reasure them that they get to be kids in our home and that not all adults are evil or unreliable. We are commited to making life as good as possible for the little guys, if they let us. Thanks again.

Great idea on the video and you two are so funny…it’s clear that whomever you adopt will experience much love and laughter in their lives. My hubby and I are also planning to foster-adopt and have the same concerns as you, but here we are going on this journey…how exciting! Good luck to your family :)

  16. I was adopted at …
I was adopted at age 5, I think the younger age you adopt at the easier it will be for them to adjust since I have older siblings who were adopted at older ages and they had a hard time connecting. Also look into the kinds of foster homes they are coming from because some foster homes are HORRIBLE and some are good, I developed a personality disorder, from my experience, now that I’m older I feel the need to want to know more about my birth family, and that info is hard to obtain

We always knew we would adopt even before we met each other. It’s weird how some people just know this is what they want to do from a young age. So cool! Well I am happy for your future adoption and your big ol’ heart right now:) Take care!

  21. Thank you soooo …
Thank you soooo much!!!! I am happy for you all and your adoptions. Many of our friends have done the international adoption thing. We have close friends who are on year 2 of their Haitian adoptions ( Their kiddo’s should be home this summer), and others on year 2 of their China adoption. They are so patient and persevere through all the odd paperwork hold ups with grace. Adoption is our goal and we do not plan on fostering once the boy(s) are adopted. Thank you for your encouragement.

  22. Good for you!! I am …
Good for you!! I am an adoptive mom to an amazing daughter from China. It is by far my greatest joy! We are also a multi-racial family. (Caucasian, Asian and Black) I am a licensed to foster but it honestly seemed to daunting in our city. We are now waiting now for our daughter from Africa. Adoption is a wonderful way to add to your family and I wish you nothing but happiness on your journey. There is one(2?) lucky little boy waiting for you guys.

Lord bless your souls! I have no experience in this area outside of my son who was a premie had a wonderful sitter who was a foster mother with a special certification for drug babies. She was a blessing to us and I’m so grateful for all of her knowledge. I work in MCH and I will keep my eyes out for any info that might be useful to you…and I will keep your family lifted in prayer.
