Christian Adoption

April 25, 2010

Do you think Constantine’s adoption of Christianity helped or hurt the Christian message?

Would you side with those who felt Constantine’s conversion was a blessing (e.g. Eusebius of Caesarea) or with those who felt it was a curse (monastic movement)?

Furthermore, how involved do you think the government of today should be in religion…and vice versa?

If he hadn’t done so, there would be absolutely no Christianity left in the world.
my opinion.

how involved should the government be?
law makers should consult one another, and the conversation should always always be open, but neither should have power over the other…we cannot afford, as a society to think in absolutes. If we do, our small mistakes will become egregious.

  1. Well, it plays both ways. The church really should not be so involved in political details, other than working in a general sense for a just society. What were the Christians in Constantine’s day supposed to say. "No, we like living in caves and getting eaten by lions"??

  3. 1. It was a curse as it doomed Western civilization to the Dark Ages stunting science and technology for almost a thousand years. It led to the Crusades, the Inquisition and Hitler (he was a Christian, though a mystic one)
    2. Government and religion should not be mixed. That just leads to an oppressive form of government (like in the Dark Ages).

Seriously… read some history other than that written by Christians. Some objective history. Religion (as opposed to spirituality) has been a blight on Mankind.

  5. Constantine did alot to harm christianity.
Actually, what he adopted was not christianity.
    It was a corruption thereof.
Jesus said his followers would be no part of the world, so religion should stay out of politics …..and vice versa.

  6. Adoption?!!! Invention!!!

Prove anything different to the fact that he invented it!!

The Roman Emperor Constantine produced the bible and he was a pagan not god!!! He also organized Christianity into the Holly Roman Catholic Church!! Not in Israel or any of the countries of supposed origin but entirely ITALIAN!!

Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?

What a wonder full disinformation and deception campaign he waged against his Christian enemies – so good in fact that Christians are still following the deception to this day!!!
